One quibble; the Riverine Squadrons of Vietnam used the PBR (Patrol Boat, Riverine) for the "up the creek" boat. It was basically a speedboat with twin .50s and 7.62 MGs

The RIVER PATROL BOATS of Vietnam are the precursors of Inshore and Inland Operations! WE led the way and INVENTED very successful tactics. Saved a lot of lives and made history while Incountry.

River Patrol Boats (P.B.R.'s in MY day) were constantly under fire and the targets of many ambushes. Gallant men fought back and were very successful in hindering enemy forces' supply lines, and troop movements. We did it with a single mount .50 aft, M60 & M18 machine gun and grenade launchers and twin .50's up front, on the bow.

You guys got one thing wrong...RIVER PATROL BOATS in Vietnam (NOT Swift Boats) were the "Tip of the Spear" for today's Riverine Operations! At least you guys at History and Military Channel got ONE thing right - - - stay out of the way of the Gunners!

The US Navy Riverines of today had their origin in the Vietnam-era River Patrol Force T.F. 116, Operation Game Warden and T.F. Clear Water which were made up of the PBR (Patrol Boat River) of PBR River Sections/Divisions, Mine Counter Measures Units, Seawolves (HAl 3), Black Ponies (VAL 4), STAABs, SEAL Teams, SEAL Support Units, LST Units and Support Bases - NOT the Swift Boats of T.F.-115. We Patrolled the inland waterways of the Mekong Delta in IV Corps and up near Hue in I Corps. T.F.-116 and T.F. Clearwater were in deed the "Point of the Spear" and developed tactics that are in use today. We old PBR Sailors of the River Patrol Force had a great deal to do with writing the PQS of the modern day Riverines.
