The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) released a footage showing a number of its jihadists opening fire with KPV-14.5 heavy machine guns on a Russian Mil Mi-28 somewhere to the east of the ancient city of Palmyra. Though the Russian combat helicopter was not directly hit but was forced to immediately change course. The area where the footage was filmed is believed to be outside the Silos (located nearly 7 km to the east of Palmyra) which is under the Syrian Army’s control. The Syrian troops, backed by the Russian airstrikes, are actively engaged in fierce battles with the ISIS terror organization in the northern and eastern fringes of Palmyra.
