Named as one of Time magazine's Top 50 inventions for 2010, the Martin Jetpack is the world's first practical jetpack, set to revolutionise the industries of aviation, recreation and transportation. Able to be flown by a pilot or via remote control, this inspirational and versatile product continues to attract strong interest from potential customers and investors worldwide. Based in New Zealand, Martin Aircraft Company is currently focusing on developing the Martin Jetpack for use as a first responder vehicle and a heavy lift unmanned air vehicle. Following the successful introduction of the Jetpack into the first responder community, the company will work on developing a jetpack for leisure and personal use. The Martin Jetpack was initially conceived of and developed by Glenn Martin in Christchurch in 1981 in response to another jetpack that had a one minute flight-time limit. Now over 30 years later, Martin Aircraft Company has assembled a team of the best experts in aviation to make the jetpack a reality, with flight capability of over 30 minutes at speeds up to 74 km/h and altitudes above 800 feet. First, your Correct - it is a TURBO, designed leaning towards the "Rocket Man" concept of DC Comic fame. This Model is the Commercial / Recreational Design, where as a Military Design addresses all the "NOISE/VISIBILITY/OPERATIONAL concerns. After all, do you care if Paramedics arrive in a noisy Vehicle?NO!..... Do you care if any First Responder arrives in a Bright Colored Vehicle?NO!.....Do you care if the Vehicle is Jet or Turbo as long as it get's the Job Done?NO!..... So look at the Practical Applications and the Recreational Applications - bet you like the idea don't you?"Yes!..... Man Made Obstacles and HUA are your true enemies when flying in case you haven't figured that out yet! - Have A Good Flight ! - Be glad its TURBO, gas is cheaper then Jet Fuel !

For that matter, what will a first responder bring to a scene in this device that isn't already there in an ambulance or fire response vehicle? Can it carry an injured person to a hospital? Doesn't look like it has much payload capability. Would be interesting to see a scenario where this jet pack will be helpful where an ambulance, fire engine, and/or a helicopter wouldn't.
