Writing has therapeutic significance for veterans with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr. Nina Sayer of the Center for Chronic Disease Outcomes Research conducted a study, published in 2015, on the benefits of "expressive writing" for returning veterans. She notes that, whereas formal psychological treatment often requires a clinical diagnosis, referral, appointment, wait time and travel, the therapeutic benefits of writing can begin at any point, anywhere. For more information, read the VA VAntage Point Blog and the VA Office of Research and Development webpage. The study is available in the October, 2015 of the Journal of Traumatic Stress, and an abstract of the study is available on the PubMed website.
