A new high-capacity military communications satellite was launched March 15 from Cape Canaveral, Florida, in order to help soldiers on the ground send large transmissions faster. The satellite cost $424 million, according to a recent release, and is the 10th to join the Wideband Global Satellite Communication group that supports the Defense Information Systems Network. The satellite was launched via a Delta IV rocket. Officials said the satellite will help drones transmit information about high-value targets more quickly, leading to faster decision-making for soldiers on the ground. It could also help a deployed combatant commander receive and execute an order from the president of the United States more quickly. Read more at Army.mil.
