Eligible Air Force civilian employees now have the option of working part time in a 'semi-retired' status, according to new Air Force Instruction 36-817, Civilian Phased Retirement Program. Phased retirees will work half the number of hours they worked as full-time employees. Participation is voluntary. To be eligible, employees should be employed on a full-time basis for at least three consecutive years before beginning the program. The phased retirement period is for one year with an option to extend for an additional year. Also, phased retirees will be required to mentor other employees for at least 20 percent of their working hours. For more information, visit myPers and search for 'Phased Retirement.'
