Since its founding in 1989, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Center for PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) has maintained a commitment to improve the care of veterans through research into the prevention, causes, assessment and treatment of traumatic stress disorders and education. Recent findings from Center researchers include: (1) PTSD as a long-term consequence of war; (2) PTSD is associated with metabolic syndrome; and (3) PTSD is sometimes associated with lower sexual satisfaction.
