One of the three largest credit reporting agencies, Equifax, recently reported a data breach that exposed the sensitive personal information of 143 million consumers. The data breach occurred from mid-May through July. The breach is potentially dangerous because of the nature of the consumer information Equifax stored. Every consumer has a right to review one free copy of his or her credit report each. To do so, visit the Annual Credit Report website. Visit the Equifax website to determine whether your account was one that may have been. If you have questions, call your nearest Armed Forces legal assistance office, which you can find here.
