Pilot Class 43-D Association
Pilot Class 43-D Association is an IRS approved, non-profit service organization. Incorporated in the State of Florida, it was founded at Ft. Walton Beach, FL in April 1984. The concept was originated by Frank Dutko, a graduate of Aloe AAF, Victoria, TX. He assembled the first reunion with 17 members attending.
At the second assembly, at Camp Springs, MD and Andrews AFB, in April 1985, a formal organizational structure was established. More than 75 members and their wives attended this reunion. Members agreed that the organization would be open to all 43-Ders, regardless of graduation field, and those who washed out during training. Widows are Life Members, dues free. Our rolls show about 1047 names.
Class 43-D was one of the largest to enter training, 9,896 started, and 5,275 graduated from 29 training fiels, plus Tuskeegee Institute. Meeting in Charleston, SC in 2001 will be our 18th consecutive reunion.
The organization was probably the first recognized pilot class of its size and kind. We are dedicated to comradeship among our members and are composed of men whose lives and dreams have been dedicated to flight.
