This 'Military Appreciation' gift pack is available from Military OneSource. (Military OneSource)

Who doesn't like free stuff? In honor of Military Family Appreciation Month, also known as National Veterans and Military Families Month, the Pentagon is giving out a free "Military Appreciation Kit."

"On behalf of the Department of Defense, we acknowledge the important role military families have in our military community. In recognition of National Veterans and Military Families Month, Military OneSource celebrates military families and veterans within 365 days from their separation date by providing a Military Family Appreciation Kit while supplies last," the site says.

Because nothing says "thank you" like some free Military OneSource swag.

So what, exactly, is in a military appreciation kit? Here's a list from Military OneSource:

  • luggage tag
  • magnet
  • mousepad
  • portable chill drills
  • phone wallet and stand
  • reusable commissary bag
  • Non-medical counseling flier

The free kits, which are available while supplies last, can be requested through the Military OneSource website by logging into your Military OneSource account. Once you place your order, the kit will be mailed to you, although shipping might be "delayed," the site notes, because the kits are assembled by hand.

Who is eligible to get one of these? Active-duty members of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force (sorry, Coasties, this is a DoD-funded program); National Guard and reservists and their families; military survivors; medically discharged troops and their families; and retirees and veterans within a year of leaving the military.

No details were available as to how fast these might go, so if you want one you should place an order today.
